Reid to Cowboys: I can't get quit of you

In case anyone thinks democrats are actually serious about cutting spending, I offer the following...

Harry Reid on Cowboy Poetry

I watched the 15 second video and saw Mr. Reid stating that cutting the National Endowment for the Arts could have a negative effect on the economy for a particular area. I suppose it’s fun to make fun of cowboy poetry, but the point being made was that a relatively small amount of money spent on supporting the arts in a particular area brings tens of thousands of people into an area which presumably has a positive effect on the local economy. You can certainly choose to argue about spending cuts, but why choose to make fun of a particular kind of art.

If the cowboy poetry festival brings tens of thousands of people to a particular area, as Reid claims, then it should be able to survive quite nicely on its own, don't you think? There is apparently a market for cowboy poetry in that area, so the market should be able to support it.

The amount of money involved is less important than the principle. If Reid is unwilling to cut funding for cowboy poetry, what is he willing to cut. Answer: nothing.

I wasn't making fun of the particular art. I was making fun of Reid. Because this little anecdotal episode is a perfect metaphor for why we are on the brink of a fiscal crisis. Sometimes you have to either laugh or cry.
